The Weekend That Was: Maria Weds, Amber Competes at Scotiabank 1/2 & Our 2nd Annual K2K Race!

As the weekends stack up, Bellingham Distance Project has been checking boxes, signing up and participating in numerous events, hosting events, and experiencing immense life changes. Last weekend was no exception – kicking off with our dearteammate, Maria Dalzot’s marriage to her partner, coach, and amazing photographer, Tad Davis. The two had just recently returned from Slovenia and their trek across Europa touring the most gorgeous & grueling trails. To see photographs of their adventures, and to read about Maria’s experience running in the 2016 World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships, go HERE, or you can check out Tad’s gorgeous photographs HERE! For her Bachelorette Party, Maria spent the morning running with teammates in the mountains before marrying in Whatcom Falls Park, and celebrated post with dinner and wine, compliments of her wonderful family.

On Sunday morning at 7:30 am, Amber Morrison competed in her first race back post injury – the ScotiaBank 1/2 Marathon – going in to the race as a rust buster of sorts, un-tapered and excited to compete in the elite field, representing BDP and Saucony Hurricanes. On a hot day, she beat her seeding, and though not a PR, Amber is building a huge base of work leading towards a powerful Fall. BDP are huge fans of BC Athletics, the athletes and staff of which are fierce, kind and welcoming. Thank you to the Canada Running Series and ScotiaBank 1/2 Marathon for hosting our teammate, and for supporting all of us at various points over the years.

Sunday afternoon held our 2nd Annual K2K Race, the 2k fun run we’ve hosted alongside Kulshan Brewery, to raise funds to support our team in their venture to compete at the USATF XC Championships each year (this year to be held in Tallahassee, FL). The day was a beautiful blue, a lot of awesome families and kids came out, one particular participant tried to induce labor by walk/jogging the event, and everything went down without a hitch. Results for this year’s race are slated to go live this evening, and can be found HERE! Congrats to Sarah and David who took 1st Overall Female/Male, winning awesome prizes including a Fairhaven Runner’s waterbottle, goodies and gift certificate, and a Kulshan Growler + Fill. The two also smattered the previous course records from our inaugural year, and are now the course record holders! A Special Thank You to our race sponsors: Kulshan Brewery, Nuun, Saucony, Birch Equipment, Brad Jones, Fairhaven Runners, Rocket Pure, Ground Up Inspection Services, and RRCA! Without you, we’d be at a loss.
