Race Weekend Roundup

This weekend hosts a bevy of races, the meat of which resides in the PNW. Duly noted are the Olympic Trials on February 13, but the weekend will also see: Bellingham Trail Running Series’ Fragrance Lake 1/2 Marathon and 10k, GBRC’s Two for the Road 5k, and Pacific Road Runners’ First 1/2 Marathon in Vancouver, BC, and we’ve got women in all of them! I don’t know about you, but I get a charge of energy from watching races, and a little jealous, hungry for competition. If you’re interested in information regarding any of the before-mentioned races – I got you:

Whatcom Falls Park – Bellingham

Race Course Description: The race will start & finish near the fish hatchery within Whatcom Falls Park. After a short loop to the north, you will head west on the Waterline Trail. Then turn south (left) on the trail that takes you to Lakeway Dr. before turning right into Bayview Cemetery. Following the road through the cemetery, you’ll reconnect with the Waterline Trail, turning right. Head east, take a left across the wooden footbridge, then a sharp right up a short, steep hill, turning right again at the top. This trail will lead you across the old stone bridge and up to the parking area where the old finish was. From here you will cross the road, go up the trail by the registration shelter, turn left at the top along the road, and follow the curve back to the start/finish area.
– Ribbons will be given to the top 4 of Male and Female solo runners, stroller (solo), 2 guys, 2 girls, guy/girl combo, siblings/cousins, and parent/child. Numerous prizes!

 First 1/2 Marathon

Sunday, February 14, 2016 @ 8:30 am
Vancouver, BC – Roundhouse Community Centre
**Registration is full**

Race Course Description: The race begins in front of the Roundhouse Community Centre on Pacific Blvd. between Davie St. and Drake St. The route is scenic, going out along the Seawall, to English Bay, through Stanley Park and back again.
– This is my all time favorite 1/2 marathon. It’s gorgeous; they offer up a breakfast of bagels, fruit, soup, juice, yogurt, and coffee at the Community Centre post race. It’s well run, certified, the awards are excellent, there’s local elite talent and professional athletes. Mizuno donates the cash prizes for 1st-5th. This year we have teammate, Lydia Carrick who will represent BDP at the First 1/2!
