Wenatchee Marathon, Deception Pass 1/2 & the Boston Marathon oh my!

This coming weekend will host the Wenatchee Marathon, the Deception Pass 1/2, and on Monday, the Boston Marathon. Four of our athletes will take part in these, with Kathryn at Wenatchee, Aly and Nikki at Deception Pass, and Scarlett at Boston. In today’s blog we’ll break down each race!

Wenatchee Marathon

(Wenatchee, WA) This USATF Certified & Sanctioned course is considered fast and gorgeous, trailing the Columbia River with views of the Cascades. Hosted by TedDriven, “an organization that supports cancer research and local charities;” proceeds from the marathon will go to the cancer biology lab at the University of Pennsylvania. At 8:15 am our newest teammate, Kathryn, will embark on her first marathon since having children.

Deception Pass 1/2 Marathon

(Deception Pass State Park, Oak Harbor, WA) The Deception Pass race also includes the marathon; our athletes, Aly and Nikki will be taking on the 1/2. The course “explores the coastal trails around the famous Deception Pass Bridge on the North end of Whidbey Island” where you can “enjoy stunning water views while running through deep green forests, rocky coastline and some of the sweetest PNW single track!” The 1/2 takes on 2,900 ft. in climbing. In last year’s race, Aly, a veteran of the event took 1st place female and 14th overall. In 2015, she took 2nd/14th, and in 2014 1st/19th. With a big spring race season lined up, her main goal is to have fun with the race; this year she will be joined by teammate, Nikki, who, coming off the Chuckanut 50k, will also use the race as a means for some fun to break up her training.

Boston Marathon

(Boston, MA) What can we say…it’s one of our favorites. Most of our team has raced it and think of it fondly. On top of our teammate, Scarlett, who will race it this year, several of our friends and residents of Bellingham will too. Weather a week out is looking like 54 deg. 18 mph winds, with a light chance of rain. Scarlett has embarked on an incredible racing season, and though she had to withdraw from the Chuckanut 50k last month in preservation of a healing ankle sprain to make sure she could toe the line healthy at Boston, she has also been racing (Orcas Island 50k, Wicked Winter Adventure Race, Birch Bay 30k) and will continue to race her a** off post Boston, once recovered of course. She is nothing less than insanely strong.

Good luck to our teammates, friends, and those in the community who will toe the starting lines of their prospective races this coming weekend and on Patriot’s Day! Can’t wait to post back with race results and lessons earned.
