Meet Your BBM Pacers!

Bellingham Distance Project is excited to be providing pacing for the Bellingham Bay full/half marathon this year. Pacing is free for anyone who wants to use it. Pacers will have a stick with the target finish time and will wear bright yellow shirts. You are welcome to stay with the pacer to hit your goal time or use them as you see fit. All of our runners are experienced and more than capable of helping you achieve your goals.

Meet your pacers

We asked your pacers to answer one of the following:

  • When you were little, who was your favorite superhero and why?
  • If you could have an endless supply of food, what would you get?
  • What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?

Amber Morrison – “My favorite superhero from my childhood was She-Ra. She was a fierce woman who could lift cars, move boulders, wield a sword and run incredibly fast, all in a skimpy little white dress.”

Courtney Olsen – “My absolute favorite thing to do in the summer is to hang at my cousin’s house, where she will have made me egg burritos, french press coffee over ice, and a mimosa. We will pull blankets and drape them across the grass of her backyard & read & become restless until one of us suggests going for margaritas. I also love to float down rivers with a cold beer in my hand.”

3:25 (7:49)

Baine Breaux – “Endless supply of Pizza please! So many variations for any mood or taste! Good hot or cold, and keeps for quite a while.”

Terry Sentinella – Is the Skagit Flats Marathon race director and will also be pacing in the Chicago Marathon this year. His favorite superhero as a child – “Batman! I think it was the Batmobile and the BIF, BAM, BANG that did it for me!”

3:35 (8:12)

Aly Howisey – “My favorite thing to do in the summer is barefoot water ski in Eastern Washington.”

Alyson Klein – “When I was younger, my favorite character was Minnie Mouse. I loved her. I wanted to be her. I will never forget when I first saw her – I was 3 years old and was at Disneyland in CA. I caught a glimpse of her ears and pink bow across the park. I dropped my parents hand and bolted across the park screaming, ‘Miiinnnnieeee Moooousssseeee!.’ When my parents finally caught up to me (albeit, panicked), I was grinning from ear to ear and holding Minnie’s hand. Not quite a superhero, but she was my hero!”

3:45 (8:35)

Maria Dalzot – “My favorite thing to do in the summer is to go camping and in the morning go get a hot coffee and a homemade pastry from a hipster coffee shop in the mountains.”

Tad Davis – “My favorite superhero was Speedy Gonzales (yes I know he’s not technically a superhero), because he was super fast.”

4:00 (9:09)

Arielle Walton – For an endless supply of food, “I would get copious amounts of fruits and veggies, combined with the more important staples of peanut butter, dark chocolate, and beer.”

Kelly Bird – “I liked She-Hulk. Wonder Woman is probably the more typical response as the feminist hero, but she had too many super powers to make it believable. She-hulk got her hulkness from a blood transfusion from her hulk cousin, Bruce Banner, totally believable.  She has brute strength, but retains her personality, which is cool and she’s green! Here is a list of her super powers: Superhuman strength, speed, agility, stamina, and durability. Regenerative healing factor, emotion empowerment, breaking the ‘Fourth Wall,’ power-switching, highly skilled law practitioner, expert hand to hand combatant and a skilled pilot. Really what could be more perfect! Who needs magic bracelets like Wonder Woman when you have regenerative healing! Oh and breaking the fourth wall, not sure what that is, but I need it. Skilled pilot, enough said.”

Half Pacers

1:45 (8:01)

Paul Frazey – “In the summer, my favorite thing to do is go for a long run on Galbraith. On a clear day, you can get views of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Vancouver Island, Lake Whatcom, Lake Padden…It’s awesome!”

2:00 (9:09)

Miranda Lahman – “If I could have an endless supply of food I think it would be Palisade peaches. Maybe it’s because I just ate one but when they are in season they are so delicious!”
