Track & Field Meets, 1-Mile Champs & the Olympic Trials

running-track_1

When I was young my brother and I would race at Bellingham’s All-Comer’s meet throughout the summer. There are photographs of pure passion, evident in our grimaced lips, our chins tucked into the hollow of space between collarbones, our arms doing most of the work, instilling in us a fire, competitive natures, kind of building the platform of tools we’d need to handle loss, because there was a lot of it. The jogger’s mile taught me to practice self-awareness, calculation, control. I’m so thankful to have had the All-Comers Meets growing up, and love that they have continued to grow and act as a major staple in communities across the US.

With Spring comes track and field for youth in series such as these, for high schools, colleges, not to mention the Olympic Trials, Championship Races, the Olympics…BDP is varied in specialties and some of us are lover’s of the track. As we get older, it’s easier to commit to the roads, as there seems to be more opportunities, or in the least, year-round opportunities, but that doesn’t mean we eliminate track work. This Spring, some of us are working our way back to the track, and focusing on shorter distances like the 5k-1/2 marathon, and have compiled a list of excellent opportunities to the work to the test. Listed below are some opportunities available, from weekly meets for all-ages and all-paces, to the ultimate – the Olympic Trials. We hope your spring training has been healthy, fun, and a good sort of hard, and hope to see you out there this Spring!
