Korey grew up in Thurston Co. and started running when he was 20. He found the mountains and trail running fulfilling, and was able to obtain sponsorships with Pearl Izumi (when they used to sponsor runners), ClifBar, Feetures and Seven Hills Run Shop. Korey has been on the move the last several years, having lived in Arizona, Oregon and all over Washington and is currently working his dream job at the Bellingham Fire Department. He loves to serve this amazing city, and feels fortunate to be able to raise his family in Bellingham. “It’s a blessing to love where you live.”
One of Korey’s fondest running memories was finishing his first 50-mile trail race. A few weeks prior to it he had dropped out of another 50-miler at mile 45 with some knee issues. Though bummed, he knew he was in decent shape and after letting himself heal, he decided to go after it again at another race. Running within his means, he eventually caught the leader at 49.5 to take the win. “I’ll just never forget that feeling. It was amazing.”
