Florence Forth NC 10k Champs, Hot Chocolate 15k, and Lake Sammamish 1/2 Earns BDP 3 PR’s!

Florence Forth N.C. 10k Championships and a PR!

Saturday, March 2 – At the Florence Forth N.C. 10k Championships in Durham, NC, Derek overcame some slight discomfort in jet lag and the GI monster to nab a PR. Finishing in a time of 34:46, Derek took 14th OA. The Florence Forth 10k benefits AE ALLIANCE (Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance); in 2019 the race raised $35,000 to the cause! The theme for 2019 evoked superheroes. “It calls us to be our best. It reminds us why we run Florence Forth. In preparing for the sixth Florence Forth, we reflect on capes and doing good.” As the USATF NC 10k Championships (eligible for USATF awards only if a 12-month resident of NC and a member of the USATF NC Association), runners enjoyed a rolling course. Saturday, March 2 – In training through Washington’s winter wind and snow storms, it was nothing short of impressive that BDP’s Kathryn Merrill would earn a PR at the Lake Sammamish 1/2! Finishing in 1:26:50, this girl is on f-i-r-e! Full results HERE!

America’s Sweetest Race

Sunday, March 3 – The Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k features both a 15k (9.3 miles) and 5k distance, the courses of which highlight Seattle’s biggest attractions. Make-A-Wish is the official race charity of the Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k. As Thomas builds up towards road racing which will culminate in a Spring marathon, he raced the 15k, earning a PR (49:53) and 3rd Place in the process. In front of him was 2nd place’s Trevor Lafontaine of Tacoma, and 1st place’s Jonathan Lafler of Seattle. Full results HERE!
